48 hours with no rainfall (Check your local weather forecast)
Before You Start
Turn off all waterfalls and water features for the full 48 hours of the test. This does not include a spa spillover which may continue to run as usual.
Turn off any heaters (solar, propane, electric, etc.) and allow the pool to cool for two days prior to beginning the test.
Start the Test
Fill the pool to the normal level – approximately the halfway point on your skimmer face. Be careful not to over fill the pool.
Turn off your pump and allow the water to settle for a few moments.
Adhere the ALD business card to the pool wall with the START line sitting at the current water level of the pool.
Turn your pump back on and allow it to run normally for 48 hours.
48 Hours Later
Turn off your pump and allow the water to settle for a few moments.
Look at the ALD business card and note where the water level is now sitting.
Interpreting the Results
1/2” or less of water loss during the 48 hour test would be considered the upper threshold for reasonable evaporation in Central Florida – in other words, you probably don’t have a leak!
More than 1/2” of water loss during the 48 hour test on a non-heated pool with no running water features or waterfalls would indicate the presence of a leak. Give us a call!
